Each user holds individual responsibility for spreading unreliable information
Minister of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Aida BALAYEVA, published a post on her social media page, in which she touched upon the problem of spreading unreliable and illegal information on online platforms, Kazinform reports.
At the beginning of the post, she noted that monitoring shows a rise in distribution of misleading and unreliable information on the Internet.
“In this regard, I appeal to the administrators of network resources with a call to carefully monitor their news agenda, prevent the dissemination of unverified news and delete illegal content. In turn, I ask social media users not to commit rash acts and not to post posts and comments that, according to the letter of the law, can lead to blocking of the source of information - the online platform,” Balayeva’s post says.
According to her, despite the active participation of the department in solving the problem, each user holds individual responsibility for spreading unreliable information.
“Our Ministry very rarely resorts to prohibitive measures, given that millions of citizens get their news from online platforms. However, administrators of online resources must also be aware and understand that disseminating information is, first and foremost, a responsibility to readers and society,” the Minister emphasized.
Balayeva also provided statistics indicating that the amount of unlawful content on the Kazakhstani Internet nearly doubled from 2023 to 2024, totaling 116,354 materials. The primary violations are the promotion of terrorism, religious extremism, narcotics, online casino advertising, and financial pyramids. The Minister also stated that 24.3% of such materials were removed from online platforms last year.
“Friends, I am sure that cohesion and unity are fundamental factors that ensure the stability of any state. Therefore, we must all support the idea of the Head of State and adhere to the principle of Law and Order, which is the key to the formation of a true legal state,” she concluded her post.
