Kazakhstan is developing a novel unrivaled throughout the world anticancer agent, Kazinform quotes Kazakh Science and Higher Education Minister Saysat Nurbek as saying.
The new homegrown anticancer agent D-VC is expected to increase survival of patients with difficult-to-treat cancers, he told the Government meeting.
The project is led by biotechnologist Dos Sarbasov who until recently worked at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. He could find a way to destroy tumor cells nutrient uptake. It is an innovative approach to cancer treatment.
He added 15 cancer patients at the cancer university passed the phase 1 clinical trial tests.
The minister also briefed on another scientific achievements of Kazakhstan. For example, scientists of Karaganda Technological University developed Saktau anticorrosive coat, the Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technological University produces more than 20 types of various implants.
The 2023-2025 budget spending on science grew by 3.3 times as compared to 2020-2022 to reach 643 billion tenge. In 2024-2026 it will make 729.5 billion.
