As of July 1, this year, a total of 4,869 people, including 1,891 kandas (ethnic Kazakhs) and 2,978 settlers were voluntarily relocated to the labor-deficient regions of Kazakhstan to boost labor mobility, the labor ministry reports.
The figure adds up to a total of 9,483 people the country plans to relocate by the end of the year.
Of the 4,869 people relocated, 2,036 settled in Pavlodar region, 1,163 in North Kazakhstan region, 540 people in Kostanay region, 402 people in East Kazakhstan region, 362 people in Abai region, 285 in Akmola region, 43 people in Karaganda region and 38 people in Ulytau region.
Uzbekistan topped the list of countries from which ethnic Kazakhs (kandas) resettle to their historic homeland – 631 people. It was followed by Mongolia – 616, China – 472, Russia – 110 and other countries – 62.
Out of 1,491 settlers and 944 kandas, 1,288 people were employed, 111 started business and one received a grant to run a business. The areas of employment included healthcare, agriculture, education, industry and so on.
As part of its voluntarily relocation policy, Kazakhstan allocates subsidies (lump sum of 70 monthly calculation indexes for each family member), monthly subsidies for housing rental and communal services in 12 months, referrals to a short-term provisional training, provides assistance in job placement and development of entrepreneurial initiative as well as economic mobility certification.
