The occupier sustained shrapnel wounds in a drone attack on a military vehicle
In Uzbekistan, a man who went to fight against Ukraine as part of the Russian occupation army has been tried in court.
According to Radio Azattyk, during the trial the 28-year-old man revealed that last year he traveled to Moscow at the invitation of Armenian managers to take part in a fighting tournament. His business had gone bankrupt, and since he had previously practiced mixed martial arts, he hoped to win the fight and use the prize money to pay off his debts:
“I found an opportunity in Moscow online. They promised to cover all expenses. I flew in on May 30, met with the Armenian managers, but they told me the fight was canceled and that I had to return the money. I had no money, so they took my passport.”
The foreign national saw an advertisement from the Russian Ministry of Defense, was promised quick payment, and signed a one-year contract. He claims he was supposed to repair equipment in the occupying army. In August, after undergoing training near Rostov and in occupied Luhansk, he was sent to the front.
Soon after, he sustained shrapnel injuries when a drone attacked a military vehicle. Doctors were unable to save his eye. He asked the Uzbek embassy in Moscow to help him return home, but they refused. He was only able to leave Russia by purchasing a migration card online for 50,000 rubles.
The Uzbek citizen was found guilty under Part 1 of Article 154 of the Criminal Code, which provides for liability for mercenarism. The court sentenced him to four years, one month, and 20 days of restricted freedom.
