Azerbaijan's AnewsZ TV channel has released exclusive photos of AZAL plane which crashed near Aktau, Kazakhstan, on December 25, Kazinform News Agency learned from report.az.
The photos, "including interior shots of the aircraft fuselage, clearly depict signs of the damage caused by external interference," a report reads.
There are traces of shrapnel impact, which also raise serious doubts about initial theories like a bird strike or an oxygen cylinder explosion.
According to the data obtained from sources in the Azerbaijan government, the preliminary investigation supposes that the plane was brought down by a missile fired from Russia’s Pantsir-S air defense system, when it approached Grozny. Earlier, Rashad NABIYEV, Minister of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan, confirmed that it was a rocket attack, although the type of the missile has not been determined yet.
Earlier, Kazinform reported that the specialists from the Aeronautical Accidents Investigation and Prevention Center (Cenipa) of the Brazilian Air Force began analyzing data from the black boxes of Azerbaijan Airlines’s Embraer 190 plane.
On December 30, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) called for a thorough, impartial and transparent investigation into the tragic crash of Azerbaijan Airlines flight 8243 on 25 December 2024.
The Azerbaijan Airlines plane which was flying from Baku to Grozny crashed near Aktau, Mangistau region, on December 25. The plane was carrying 67 people including 5 crew members. 38 people died and 29 survived as a result of the tragedy. Among the victims are six nationals of Kazakhstan.
