Marking International Civil Aviation Day, the Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan reviewed 2024’s aviation milestones, emphasizing progress across the industry. Kazinform News Agency correspondent reports on the details.
From January to October, Kazakhstani airlines carried 12.3 million passengers, which is 11% more than in the same period in 2023. The volume of cargo transportation increased by 18% and amounted to 22.4 thousand tons. The country's airports served 25.2 million passengers, an increase of 14%, and cargo turnover reached 141.7 thousand tons, which is 34% more than last year.
Growth is also observed in the development of domestic air traffic: 669 flights per week are carried out on 57 routes, which exceeds the figures for 2023. To improve transport accessibility, 19 social routes in 9 regions are subsidized in the amount of 6.6 billion tenge. International flights cover 31 countries to 115 destinations.
2024 marked the completion of passenger terminals in Kyzylorda and Almaty, as well as the repair of the runway of Astana airport. In 2025, construction of a new complex in Atyrau will begin.
The industry's achievements were also noted in the international arena: Air Astana was recognized as the best airline in Central Asia, and Kazaeronavigatsia received a prestigious award for air traffic management.
"Further work by the aviation authorities of Kazakhstan will be aimed at improving and strengthening the achieved level of flight safety, developing the route network and modernizing the air transport infrastructure", - shared the ministry.
