Visa-free travelers can stay in both countries up to 30 days
In nine months of this year, the trade turnover between Almaty and China stood at 5.6 billion US dollars, 28.9% of Kazakhstan’s total trade with China. This was revealed during a meeting of Almaty city mayor Yerbolat DOSSAYEV and Vice President of the Export-Import Bank of China YANG Dongning, Kazinform News Agency correspondent reports.
In the first half of the year, Almaty attracted 3.8 billion US dollars of foreign direct investment. The trade turnover between Almaty and China stood at 5.6 billion US dollars, 28.9% of Kazakhstan’s total trade with China, in 9 months of this year, informed the administration office of Almaty.
The meeting also focused on the issues of financing the key projects in the field of urban transport infrastructure (construction of new metro lines), diversification of the economy with a transition to new industrial projects with high-value added production, implementation of green projects (construction of a waste processing plant) and tourism promotion.
During the meeting, it was noted that the year 2024 was declared the Year of Tourism of Kazakhstan in China, the year 2025 – the Year of Tourism of China in Kazakhstan.
Earlier, Kazakh Transport Minister Marat KARABAYEV said that the volume of container transportation from China has grown 25 times.
As earlier reported, according to the eQonaq statistics system, over 122,000 Chinese tourists visited Kazakhstan in the first 10 months of this year, a 64% growth from last year’s figure of 78,515. The growing number of tourist arrivals is attributable to a visa-free travel agreement Kazakhstan and China signed last November. Visa-free travelers can stay in both countries up to 30 days.
