
Kazakhstan is interested in increasing wheat, barley, flour and vegetable oil supplies to Iran
On February 15-16, Tehran hosted a business forum of Kazakhstan and Iran which gathered more than 50 Kazakhstani and 230 Iranian entrepreneurs, Kazinform News Agency reports citing the press service of the Ministry of Trade and Integration.
The forum was chaired by the Minister of Trade and Integration of Kazakhstan, Arman SHAKKALIYEV, and the Minister of Agriculture of Iran, Gholamreza NOURI GHEZELJEH.
The program of the event included B2B meetings and a ceremony of signing the agreements. 10 commercial documents worth a total of $92.8 million were signed during the Trade-Economic Mission of Kazakhstan. In turn, the Kazakh side agreed to supply 75 types of products worth $250 million to the Iranian market.
Arman Shakkaliyev also held negotiations with the representatives of government agencies of Iran, including the ministers of agriculture, industry, mine and trade, as well as the minister of roads and urban development.
According to the Ministry of Trade, in 2024, commodity turnover between the two countries hit $340 million, which is 12.3% more compared to the previous year.
Special attention was given to agriculture, one of priority areas of the bilateral cooperation. In 12 months of 2024, agricultural commodity turnover between the two countries reached $219.8 million, that is 33.3% more against the same period in 2023.
Kazakhstan is interested in increasing wheat, barley, flour and vegetable oil supplies to Iran, the ministry says. Iran traditionally is one of the key partners of Kazakhstan in grain supplies, and the country plans to raise grain exports in the nearest time.
At a meeting with Gholamreza Nouri Ghezeljeh, Director General of JSC QazTrade Aitmukhamed Aldazharov suggested opening a partner office of the National Institute for Promotion of Goods and Services Exports of Kazakhstan in Tehran. The office will let Kazakhstani businessmen to promptly find new partners and efficiently promote products at the Iranian market.
The Kazakh minister also had a meeting with the Korafarin Entrepreneurial Council of Iran which includes 100 major entrepreneurs of Iran. The meeting focused on the prospects for expanding trade and economic cooperation, as well as the issues related to the manufacture and demand in goods in various sectors – from chemical industry to textile and forestry.
On February 17, Arman Shakkaliyev participated in a plenary session of the III Caspian Economic Forum devoted to the development of trade and industrial and agricultural cooperation of the Caspian states. The Minister noted the importance of strengthening the joint work within the TITR, having discussed the issues of setting transitional tariffs, certification, application of unified IT solutions etc. Arman Shakkaliyev highlighted that transit and export potential of Kazakhstan also depend on infrastructure opportunities of neighbor countries.
